October 2nd, 2020

Texas A&M College of Dentistry was recognized for its diverse student body and its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Texas A&M College of Dentistry has been awarded its first 2020 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The HEED Award recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“Our college prides itself in supporting and promoting diversity and inclusiveness across our Dallas campus,” said Dr. Lawrence Wolinsky, Texas A&M College of Dentistry dean. “A truly diverse and inclusive campus brings great benefit to all and serves to promote a positive environment for learning and working.”

Texas A&M University, of which the college is a part, was selected as a recipient as well. The university was also named a Diversity Champion by INSIGHT magazine, which awarded only 15 of the 200 institutions that applied.

The College of Dentistry also was a recent recipient of the 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT for its Bridge to Dentistry pipeline program.

“These awards could not have been possible without the unwavering support and guidance of the faculty, staff and students who represent our campus community,” said Wolinsky, who also commended Dr. Lavern Holyfield, assistant dean for diversity and faculty development, for her dedication and leadership in the areas of diversity and inclusion education and programming.
