After more than 15 years, Karbowski retires from TAMBCD

March 22nd, 2016

Barbara Karbowski, executive assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs, has a good reason for giving up her office space: the freedom of retirement. Her last day at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry is March 31.

“It has been a wonderful time here with memories I will cherish always; almost 16 years, but it has passed so quickly,” Karbowski says.

Her journey began with a three-year stint managing the front office at the Imaging Center’s original location on Nussbaumer Street, followed by a move to the dean’s office in 2003 to assist with TAMBCD’s 2004 Commission on Dental Accreditation preparation. Immediately after the site visit, she joined the Office of Academic Affairs and has stayed there since, serving as appointment, promotion and tenure, and programs coordinator — and weathering a second accreditation self-study and site visit in 2011 while maintaining her other full-time duties.

Barbara Karbowski, who retires March 31, was honored with gifts and comments from co-workers during a March 17 retirement reception.

Details are a constant in Karbowski’s work, whether it’s accreditation, faculty rosters and hiring documentation, contract renewal, or organizing TAMBCD committee staffing, to name a few.

“Barbara has done so much for the college and played an important role in the efficient function of the Office of Academic Affairs,” said Dr. Charles Berry, associate dean for academic affairs, at her retirement reception March 17. “We all wish her the best in retirement and the ability to take more time to enjoy life at a little less than 100 mph.”
