Dr. Clifford Ochsenbein, Class of 1945

Dr. Clifford Ochsenbein, who earned his dental degree at the college in 1945 and went on to become an internationally known periodontist, passed away Nov. 3.

Early in Ochsenbein’s career he served as a Navy dentist. After meeting Dr. John Prichard, a highly esteemed Fort Worth periodontist, he enrolled in the specialty program at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. The majority of Ochsenbein’s career was spent practicing dentistry at Dallas’ Preston Center. He traveled frequently, lecturing at the University of Washington, the University of Pennsylvania and in more than a dozen countries.

He retired in 2001 after a 55-year dental career.

One of his children, Karen Lanier, graduated from the college’s dental hygiene program in 1972 and is active in the program’s alumni activities.
