Dr. David Hale, assistant professor in pediatric dentistryDr. David Hale, assistant professor in pediatric dentistry, passed away Dec. 26, 2014. After obtaining his dental degree at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry in 1972 and completing a pediatric dentistry residency at the college in 1975, Hale practiced in Austin, Texas, for 30 years.

In 2005, after commuting to Dallas and teaching at the college a few days each week, Hale sold his practice and joined the team at TAMBCD full time, eventually becoming director of the college’s dental clinic at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

“The residents loved working with him because he brought all those years of practice experience and was happy to share it with them,” says Dr. Alton McWhorter, chair of the pediatric dentistry department. “He was more than just a faculty member to me; he was a great friend.

“He talked about his family — immediate and extended — all the time. When I finally met them at the funeral service I felt as if I’d known them for years. Apparently he had talked to them about all of us, as well.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, 2777 N. Stemmons Freeway, Suite 700, Dallas, Texas 75207.
