Third-year dental student Angela Shen consults with a patient as a predental student volunteer observes. Shen was among more than 60 dental students from Texas A&M College of Dentistry to volunteer during the Nov. 11 and 12 Texas Mission of Mercy event in Dallas. The initiative, coordinated by the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, provides no-cost cleanings, fillings and extractions to uninsured Texans. This weekend’s event is staffed by more than 800 volunteers, including dental professionals, and is dedicated solely to veterans. Organizers expected to provide care for approximately 1,000 individuals who have served our country.
